Martin Commits to Tigers
Martin signs till the end of 2017
The RICHMOND TIGERS faithful breathed a huge collective sigh of relief today as the news spread that their superstar midfielder Dustin Martin had put pen to paper signing a new 2 year contract extension. This new deal will keep the 23 year old at TIGERLAND till the end of the 2017 season.
Now with Dusty signed sealed and delivered, the Tiger faithful will turn their attention to the still un-signed all-Australian defender Alex Rance who has put off contract negotiations till the end of the 2015 season. The news of Dusty's re-signing has spread like wildfire accross the Tigers Fans social media sites, with the Richmond Tigers Serious Supporters Group Facebook page having numerous items posted relating to the great news. All RTSSG members have expressed their joy at the news, with the other Tigers social media site having the same sentiment. All Tiger fans know the impotant role that Dusty plays in the team, and remember well the great form he carried throughout last season and especially his many match winning moments. Dusty had a few things to say regarding his deciscion to stay with the Tigers, “The Club’s been massive for me. They’ve been a massive part of my life since I was 18 and they’ve taught me a lot about life and a lot about footy as well. They’ve been great”.
“I’m rapt to be honest. Glad we got it all done and don’t have to worry about it now for another few years, it was something ‘Ralphy’ (Ralph Carr) my manager and the Club did well. They kept it quiet and got it done, so it was really good on both ends.” With the Tigers having played in the last two finals series Dusty had this to say about the group, “We’re all in this together. I got here when ‘Dimma’ (Damien Hardwick) first started, so it’s been a bit of a journey so far, and we certainly want to stay together and finish it off.
Dusty joined the Tigers in the 2009 AFL national draft, being selected with pick 3, he made his debut in the first round of 2010 against the Dirty Rotten BLUES ( Carlton) he has since gone on to play 108 games in 5 seasons with the Tigers. With a best finish in the prestigious Jack Dyer Medal of 2nd in 2013, Dustin has finished in the top 10 every year, a remarkable achievement for someone so young.
(Dusty's Best And Fairest Finishes 2010 b&f 4th 2011 3rd, 2012eq 10th, 2013 2nd, 2014 4th) What does Dusty have instore for the Tiger faithful in 2015 ?, Steve Morris is a big fan who believes he will take the next step, “He does things that not many others can do, That ‘stat’ he had at the end of the season, about how many contests he wins one-on-one, inside-50, is just amazing. It goes to show what a good one-on-one player he is, it takes a special player to be able to do it inside in the midfield, on the outside, and then go up forward and be so dangerous".
Dusty has done the deed and commited to the Tigers till the end of 2017, HAVE YOU COMMITTED YET ??? Get your 2015 and beyond
